Lost Gardens of London -Private View
As you may know, there is currently an excellent exhibition at the Garden Museum, Lambeth
on the subject of Lost Gardens of London. The show is curated by Todd Longstaffe Gowan,
whose book of the same name accompanies the exhibition.
The Folly Fellowship has sponsored one of the exhibits – the Tortoise Grotto which once
stood in the grounds of the Surrey Zoological Gardens, and many more garden features can
be seen in the show. Folly Fellowship members are invited to a Private View from 5pm to
7pm on Friday, 31st January, 2025. In addition to visiting this fascinating show, members
can view the rest of the museum’s growing collection.
Wine and soft drinks will be served, and this will be a chance to chat to your fellow members
in the lovely surroundings of the museum. If you are not familiar with the Garden Museum it
is housed in the redundant church of St Mary-at-Lambeth, and the grounds are home to the
burial place of John Tradescant, the gardener who brought rare plants back from his
international travels in the early 17th century. The museum explores and celebrates the art,
history and design of British gardens, and their place in our lives today.
